Pose Off is another hilarious family game by Ideal Games that involves physical and mental strength & agility.
The concept is simple… 2- 4 player (if more you can split into teams) compete to hold yoga-style poses whilst completing verbal tasks. It sounds easy doesn’t it?

What’s In The Shake Off Box?
4 x Pose Off Mats
So let’s talk about the box.
Like Shake Off, it has a lift-up lid, which means it’s easy to store, close and nothing is going to fall out! There is a plastic insert that you could get rid of but it’s useful for keeping the cards neatly stored. And the instructions are pasted onto the lid… something I love as it means they wont get lost!
How To Play Pose Off
The game itself is relatively straight forward.
As mentioned earlier, it’s a game for 2-4 players, although more can play if you break everyone in to teams and take it in turns to do the challenges.
The game suggests the youngest player goes first, but if your house is anything like ours you choose who goes first based on previous games, current sensitivities or who you feel as a parent deserves the ‘go-first’ break!
Each player chooses a Pose Mat and positions themselves in a space that ensures everyone has enough space to do the Yoga Pose safely and fairly! It’s a good idea to run though the poses before hand to make sure everyone understands how they are done and if necessary, you can decide as a group if you are going to tweak them to make them easier or harder!
The starting player turns over one pose card and one challenge card is turned over and everyone then assumes the Yoga-style pose. The the challenge card is read out and the player who turned it over beginds the challenge with play continuing in a clocwise direction. All players must continue to hold the pose once the challenge has started.
Players are eliminated from the round if they
- step off or fall off their pose mat
- repeat a previous answer
- can’t maintain their yoga pose
- hesitate in providing an answer.
The winner of that round is the last player left and they get to keep the challenge card. The winner is the first person to to win 3 pose cards!
What Did We Think Of Pose Off
This game is a lot harder than it looks which is what I think makes it great fun.
Some of the yoga poses can be difficult to hold for a long time, but thankfully there is a good spread of easy, medium and hard poses on the cards!
There’s also a nice amount of different challenge cards, which although follow similar themes, don’t ever overlap. Some of the challenges are difficult to keep going, whereas others (depending on who is playing) could go on for quite a while.
It’s the randomness of the cards that adds to the excitement. What looks like an easy pose becomes harder to hold if the challenge keeps going for a long time! Trying to hold a pose and recall a vegetable that hasn’t been called out yet takes a lot of physical and mental energy… I’m not joking.
Pose Off is a very clever way to get kids (and adults) to stretch out their bodies and build up some core strength, whilst having fun. My girls definitely put me to shame, as they are super fit and I am…
Well, lets just say I need to work on a few moves!
