If there were awards for family games that get your heart pumping and make you laugh out loud then Shake Off (which launched last year), by Ideal Games UK, would be up there in the nominations!

The concept is simple… divide into teams, spin the spinner, attach Shake-o-Meters to the right part of your body, press the timer and shake your body based on the spinner symbol to get as high a score as you can on your click-o-meter, before the timer stops. The first team to win 5 rounds wins.

What’s In The Shake Off Box?
2 x Shake-o-meter
2 x sweatbands
1 x Spinner
1 x Electronic Timer – requires 2 x AAA batteries – Not included
Instructions – attached to the box lid

So let’s talk about the box.
For a start, it’s a lift-up lid box, which means it’s easy to store, close and nothing is going to fall out! One of my grumble about Clock It. You could get rid of the plastic insert but personally, I’d keep it, as it keeps everything neatly in place.

Then you have the instructions that are pasted on to the inside of the lid… just brilliant! I can’t keep track of the instructions my kids have lost over the years.
How To Play Shake Off
The game itself is relatively straight forward.

As mentioned earlier, it’s a team game, and players break off into two teams. To play, players spin the spinner to decide
- where you and your opponent must wear the shake-o-meter (either on your wrist, ankle, bottom or waist)
- how you must move (jump, run or freestyle).

When you’re you’re ready, press the timer and start shaking!
The winner of that round is the player with the highest score on the shake-o-meter or the player that got to the set amount of shakes the fastest. And they move their slide scorer up a notch.

The winning team is the first team to get to 5.
What Did We Think Of Shake Off
I cannot tell you how knackered I was after playing this! But it was so much fun and very competitive.
It’s easy to set up and pretty quick to play which makes it one of those handy ‘time-filler games’. And perfect to get the kids doing some exercise without them realising it. And on that note it would be easy to take out and about to parks to play on nice days, allowing kids to get some fresh air along with exercise.

You do need to make sure the band is secure on the wrist and ankle to make sure the movement is picked up by the Shake-O-Meter. So on smaller kids just pull it up to a more fleshy part of the arm or leg. I would also suggest you let younger kids try out using the clicker before starting a game so they understand what kinds of movement their body needs to make to get the shake-o-meter to work.
personally I think it’s the perfect pick me up for adults and kids, and a brilliant way to bring everyone together. Plus I actually think it would work really well over zoom. Something I plan to test out later this week!
