The Geomag Magicube Magnetic Building Blocks Animals Set contains

How to Use Magicube Magnetic Building Blocks BLOCKS

As with all Geomag sets you don’t need the instruction leaflet to use it. Magicube is designed to allow children to dive straight in and start connecting the pieces intuitively. Having said that, the instruction leaflet is useful and provides illustrations that show how to connect the 3d shapes to make animals.

The square is the only shape that has a magnetic connection on all of its sides. The triangle and corner each have two faces that are not magnetic… these faces happen to be the triangular sides. The magnetic connection is in the center of each shape face. If you look closely, you’ll just see a faint outline of a circle.

If the shapes aren’t placed together centrally they won’t connect. Don’t be alarmed! It’s actually easy to do and part of exploring the shapes is learning how they connect together.

What CAn You Build?

As already mentioned it’s great fun to just let kids investigate the magicube shaped blocks by themselves. The best creatures are the ones that come from their imagination! And if all else fails everyone loves building towers!

But if children do need inspiration the leaflet comes with the following 9 animal designs they can follow. These are;

What Do We Think Of The Magicube Magnetic Building Blocks Animals?

The magnetic building blocks are a brilliant toy for developing children’s fine motor skills as they learn to manipulate the shapes to get the correct faces connecting. They are super easy to use and like all Geomag products well made. I particularly love that they are made out of recycled plastic!

Sadly, the nature of the magnetic blocks means that some animals are prone to collapsing when moved.

Animals such as the Whale above, have many connection points in their makeup, which make them a strong build. The crab, on the other hand (see image below), only has two connection points for its body, so will collapse when moved if you’re not careful.

As well as being fun to build with the blocks also have lots of sensory appeal and are very tactile. Large shapes have a slight rattle to them when shaken and I imagine lots of children will just enjoy connecting and reconnecting two shapes over and over again.

It feels like the choice of shapes though has been given a lot of thought, and children will have fun examining how they can all be used. For example, using two points of a triangle to make feet works really well, but one, not so much!

But the magnetic blocks can be used as more than just construction toy. They can be used to aid with the learning of shape sorting, colour sorting, and number counting. Plus all the Magicube sets are interchangeable and there are lots of different styles if you want to create variety.

As a product Magicube is quite expensive compared to some other products on the market. But as good multi-use educational toys go this is one of the winners and a lot of educational play value can be had from the sets depending on how you use them.
