How To Use The Shaky Pop Nail Studio

The Shaky Pop Nail Studio is easy to set up and use

First you select the coloured glitter you want and screw it to the base of the shaker tube.

Connecting Glitter to Shaker Tube

Next, decide which nails you are and aren’t going to glitter and adjust the hole covers… take the covers off the finger holes you are glittering and cover up the rest.

Cover each nail being covered with glitter, with a thick coal of the easy-peel nail varnish.

Applying Easy Peel Nail Polish

Carefully put the nails to be glittered in the open holes of the shaker tube and shake.

Using the Shaker Tube In The Shaky Pop Nail Studio

Carefully remove the nails from the shaker tube and brush away any glitter around the nail and on the finger with the small brush.

Nail Varnish

The Nail varnish dries quickly so we found it easier to do one nail at a time. By the time we’d carefully put each nail into the shaker the first nails to be painted had started to dry out. Doing them one at a time meant it was quick and we had better glitter coverage.

Be generous with the nail varnish. We found a thinner coat didn’t have such good glitter coverage as a thicker coat. And don’t worry about any texture on the nail varnish… it gets covered by the glitter

Shaker Tube

I really wanted to like this because in theory it should have been amazing but in practice it has a few hiccups. For a start if your fingers are too small to fill up the holes you need to keep the shaker in a horizontal position with the holes on top. but even doing this glitter will inevitably escape.

The worst thing we found is that the hole covers can pop off whilst shaking which threw glitter everywhere! It’s important to make sure a small notch is aligned properly when you put them in place and watch out for glitter that collects around the rubber seal as you take fingers in and out. This part doesn’t brush off easily so keep a roll of sellotaope handy to lift stubborn areas.

Glitter Falling Out Of Shaky Pop Nail Studio

Although you can tap the shaker tube to get glitter to fall into the pot you still end up with lots of glitter stuck to the inside die to static and it’s really difficult to get out so I’d just leave it in there. We didn’t get much colour mixing when we changed glitter colours over.

GLITTER NAIL RESULTS

The nail results aren’t bad but you do always see some of the nail varnish through the glitter which is the compromise you get for having child friendly, easy-peel nail polish, that won’t damage your child nails.

You do end up with a lot of glitter stuck to skin where the finger was in the shaker tube but this is easy to brush off with the little brush included with the kit.

Glitter Nails With Shaky Pop Nail Studio

We tried making glitter nails using the adult clear nail varnish which worked well and gave better coverage because it stayed tacky for longer but because it stayed tacky for longer it was also easier to damage it… not good for young kids.

We also tied making small patterns with the easy-peel nail varnish. This worked quite well and was pretty effective, although the brush that comes in the easy-peel nail varnish is a little too big. So if you have a smaller brush I’d recommend using that.

What Did We Think Of The Shaky Pop NAil Studio?

The Shaky Pop Nail Studio is definitely a ‘Marmite’ toy… you’ll either love it or hate it. It is easy to use but the results are rather random and it is messy!

You can’t get away from the messy part and glitter will get everywhere no matter how careful you are. Creating a space with a tray and paper to catch the rogue glitter is a must if you want to try and contain the mess.

Although the nail art results aren’t brilliant, I suspect young tweens will love the quick results and independence. The nail varnish is easy to peel off and won’t damage their nails which means it’s easy to practice, easy to repair mistakes, and easy to take off for school.
