InstaGlam Glo-Up Girls Doll range

There are currently 4 InstaGlam Glo-Up Girls Dolls on the market and each doll has it’s own unique personality.

Sadie (sent For Review)

Sadie’s style is very fancy! She’s warm-hearted and empathetic and feels called to create social harmony. She is good at seeing the best in people… or as Sadie puts it “the GLO in everyone’.

Kenzie

Kenzie’s style is Hollywood posh. She’s charming, funny, and unfiltered (the first one to say what everyone’s thinking!). Music is her favourite way to express her GLO…. well, that and a pair of glam designer boots!

Erin

Erin’s style is Creative & Colourful. She’s clever, street-smart, strong-willed, and independent. She’s always chatting with friends and the first one to the party. Oh – and she loves pulling pranks on her friends!

Tiffany

Tiffany’s Style is Casual Chic. She’s a loyal friend, although shy at first, she will become a fast #BFF and fly to the moon and back for you!

Unboxing InstaGlam Glo-Up Girls Doll Sadie

The Instaglam Glo-Up Girls Doll packaging is super glam and shows the InstaGlam Glo-Up Girls Doll being purchase (Sadie for our unboxing).

The 25 fashion surprises that come with the doll as well are also visible and you can open up the side flap to see the surprise packages in more detail.

Instaglam Glo Up Dolls Packaging

To get the doll out you need a pair of scissors to cut open plastic tabs that release the dolls plastic moulding that she lays in once this is out you’ll also need scissors to release the doll from the plastic moulding as she’s held in place with little plastic tags.

The surprises are easier and slide out of the top of the cardboard enclosure and are just resting in a plastic mould.

Sadie Instaglam Glo Up Dolls Unboxed But Still In Internal Plastic Mould

It’s a shame that the packaging isn’t re-usable. For example, putting the surprises in a real set of cardboard drawers that could be re-used.

Close up of Sadie

Sadie is super cute and comes dressed in stylish tie-dye style pyjamas and a sleep mask.

She has pink purple and blue striped hair (hat matches her PJ’s) presented in two high bunches. Each bunch has been sectioned out into two thick twist curls. There is also some braiding detail at the front of her hair that disappears into each bunch.

The bottom hair of each section feels slightly hard where some product has been put on it to keep the distinctive style in place. The stands can be released by gently rubbing the hair between finger tips.

The body has quite a few of moveable parts

  • the head rotates 360 degrees in a full circle with a little up and down moveability
  • shoulders, elbows and wrists are ball and socket jointed allowing lots of movement and poseability.
  • the waist is solid
  • Hip joints move 90 degrees up and down to the front and back and can move out to the side to about 45 degrees.
  • there is no bending or movement at the knees
  • ankles have a ball and socket joint allowing rotation and up and down movement.

It’s a shame there is no bend in the knees as it means that the InstaGlam Glo-Up Girls Dolls can only sit with their legs straight out in front of them.

The Instaglam Glo-Up Girls Doll fashion Surprises

As mentioned there are 25 accessories that come with the dolls. These include a mix of accessories and water generated changes to the doll itself.

The first item to unpack is the small ‘shine-bright’ sachet that contains a small dehydrated circle of face masks; one for the doll and for your child! Drop this into the small plastic basin-style container that comes with the doll (the doll is standing in the container when you unbox her) and the mask will reveal itself.

Glo Up Doll Facemask

A little care is needed to unwrap these, as the doll mask is small and will attach itself to the bigger mask.

Glo Up Doll Sadie Wearing A Face Mask

Next is the fizz bomb that needs to be dissolved in water to real a little makeup brush. Kids use the makeup brush to wet Sadie’s face to reveal some more makeup detail.

The wetting of the face removes a thin layer of flesh coloured paint. This makes the eyebrows and eye makeup more defined and reveals some delicate blush on Sadie’s cheek. It is subtle so some kids may miss it.

More water is required for the next two reveals. When Sadie has her toes and fingers dipped in ice-cold water, her nail polish turns from pale purple to dark purple. But if you warm up those fingers and toes they go a lovely pale pink! It’s actually fun to see the nails change if she goes from a warm room to a cold room!

Next up is a little clutch that contains a small soft plastic eyeshadow palette. This was the most disappointing part of the set as the palette felt quite cheap and the eyeshadow colours are a sticker that wasn’t secured well.

And this is followed by unboxing the tissue wrapped clothes And accessories that include

  • a pair of purple pom pom earings
  • a skater girl style tulle dress
  • a pair of clear glitter boots
  • a white plastic belt and purple back pack

Once these are all opened it’s time to switch up Sadie and put all the new items on her!

Dressing Sadie In Her Clothes And Accessories

The earrings, boots and backpack are really easy to get on and off. The dress and its little white belt are a bit of a nightmare!

Sadie Glo Up Dolls Back Pack

That’s because the top of the dress is made from a thin, stretchy white mesh material. And getting her hands through the sleeves without her teeny fingers poking through the fabric is nigh on impossible. It takes a lot of time and patience and I suspect some dresses will end up with holes.

The belt is also difficult to do up. It’s made of soft rubbery plastic, and the connector is a small nobble of plastic that needs to be pushed through a small hole at the other end of the belt. To do this the hole end needs to be pulled to make the hole bigger. Then the plastic nobble can be wiggled through… it’s really hard and frustrating!

Sadie The Instaglam Glo Up Doll In. her Dress Boots And Earings

When the dress is on it looks super cute. And the boots are fantastic at allowing the doll to stand up by herself and be posed. It’s just such a shame it’s so fiddly.

What Did We Think Of Sadie?

I really liked the concept of the doll and that she was dressed in fun colourful ‘age appropriate’ clothes that tween kids can relate to. Her vibe is definitely young and fresh rather than sexy and the colour of her hair and matching outfit makes her super cute!

Kids are going to love they have a facemask to use alongside their doll! The clothes come in little re-useable boxes and bags (wrapped in tissue paper) which is always fun to have. And of course, as well as being useful to store everything makes them part of the imaginary play value.

I also love that her nails react to both hot and cold temperatures rather than just cold. Warm little hands can touch the nails to change the colour or get iced water… I know as a parent which I’d prefer!

She’s quite well balanced in her boots on which means she’s also great to pose and position for photo’s and play! I do wish they’d jointed her knees as that would have made her even more poseable!

There are a couple of little niggles. One is lots of plastic packaging, but that’s not unique to this particular doll brand and something I think all doll manufacturers need to look at. the other being the eye shadow palette that just feels cheap compared to the rest of the items.

It’s unfortunate that Sadie’s dress is tricky to get on because of the fingers getting caught in the material. And the belt is genuinely difficult to do up. The idea of the doll set is to change her between her casual PJ clothing and her getting glammed up to go out. If part of that is tricky to do it takes away some of the play pleasure.
