The ‘I’M A GIRLY Dolls’ are the new fashion dolls in town and they are just a bit gorgeous and just a bit luxurious! Which is why my girls were rather pleased when we were sent one to review.

What Are I’m A Girly Dolls
Designed by children for children the I’m a Girly luxury dolls come with varying skin tones, realistic proportions and a wardrobe of fashionable clothes that generate wardrobe envy from the chic and fashionable.
Originating from Switzerland, they are developed through the company’s KIDS4KIDS design team with the help of a core group of 9-13 year old girls and boys who bring to the table the problem-solving capabilities and innovative spirit of kids.
There are currently 7 I’m A Girly Dolls to choose from (we chose Lucy) and the idea is that you build up and style your own doll over time using the various accessories available (including being able to change her hair!).
I’m A Girly Doll Lucy

Lucy comes with striking long brown hair, a cute teal outfit with matching shoes and the softest biker jacket I have ever felt. It is stunningly well made with metal zips, poppers and buckle and is so easy (and satisfying) to get on and off.

The I’M A GIRLY Features
The attention to detail on both the dolls and clothing is exquisite. All the doll’s limb sockets and neck are ball joints (there is no movement in the feet and hand joints) which allows great movement and positioning, which is perfect for all the photos you and your child are going to want to take!

I was particularly impressed by the amazing balance the doll has that allows you to stand her up without any support in a variety of poses. This is partially helped by a well-proportioned body, sensibly sized feet and well-made shoes.
The eyes have been made to look very natural with amazing iris colour and lovely long lashes and the face has a gentle, kind, childlike expression.

Even her fingernails and toes are manicured.

I’m A Girly Dolls Hair
The hair on the dolls is beautiful and excellent quality, having been designed to be styled, cut ( yes, you read that correctly… cut!!) and changed (yep, you can change the hair!). This is one of the key features I love.

Knowing how kids love to style dolls (including hair) the I’M A GIRLY dolls hair is actually a detachable wig and it’s a really neat idea. It means that the doll can constantly be updated and kids can have fun creating hairstyles, including cutting the hair, without worrying about damaging the doll.

The wigs are pretty easy to put on and off. Each doll has a ridge that runs around the dolls head that the wig slips into, to keep in place and you can slide them to the side to create a side parting.

They are quite expensive so you’re probably not going to be changing them very frequently but it’s a lovely extra to have. And even if you’re not brave enough to let your child cut the wigs, just being able to change the colour massively transforms how the doll looks.
I’m A Girly Dolls Fashionably Stylish Clothes
The quality of the clothes is amazing. Each piece is well made and stitched together with proper seams, high-quality buttons, zips and uses top-notch fabric. The outfits are really stylish and on trend; these are super, fashion conscious, dolls remember. They range from sneakers and tracksuits right up to full-blown evening gowns and rather than having to buy sets of clothes you can mix and max individual pieces to create your own style.

We were sent a gorgeous ribbed red sweater, black and white striped trousers, some funky boots and a pair of specs. All of the pieces were made using nice thick fabric and the stretch in the trousers meant that the fir on the doll was very slick. There’s a proper zip and just enough give around the waist to enable you to do the button up. Even the stylish boots have great quality laces and a tongue inside that you have to pull up just like you would with a real pair of boots.

We chose to tuck the trousers into the boots but there is enough give in the fabric to be able to pull them over the top.

The ‘converse’ style trainers had loads of detail and are beautifully lined with a soft padded fabric and again the laces are nice and robust.

I’M A GIRLY Packaging
One of the things I love is that the I’M A GIRLY packaging is their “No Waste” policy. It has been cleverly designed to have as minimal an environmental impact as possible and designed to be re-used/played with. The doll comes in a box that becomes her ‘walk-in wardrobe’. It’s covered in gorgeous graphics, is the perfect box for storing her in when she’s not being played with and it would be really easy to add a hanging rail inside to hang the clothes off. Plus you could also use it as a bed!

But if you do decide to throw away the packaging most of it’s made of cardboard so it’s recyclable.
What Do We Think Of The I’m A Girly Dolls
These dolls are expensive and so are the accessories BUT you are paying for a top-notch quality product. As a parent I love that they’ve used ‘ball and socket’ type joints. It allows the dolls to be manipulated and posed much more than other dolls; being able to move the head with so much precision really adds to how the doll looks when posing her. And of course, it’s lovely having such great quality clothes. But the winner for me is the hair. I absolutely love that the hair can be changed. It allows the dolls to have quite drastic transformations which in turn keeps that spark of interest going for the child.

My girls loved all the clothes and accessories and that the I’M A GIRLY dolls are large and easy to handle, but most of all they felt this was a doll they could relate to. It represented who they were and who they hung out with… the various skin tones, different hair types, the lack of makeup, the interests, the aspirations. Tweens/early teens is a difficult age. They’re growing up but they’re not grown up yet. They still want to play and get creative but not in the way they used to. A doll like this bridges this gap.
The ‘I’M A GIRLY’ doll isn’t going to be for everyone and the cost will be a big deciding factor (especially if you have a child that manages to break things at the drop of a hat) but this doll definitely fills a gap in the doll world and I predict we will see a lot more of the I’m A GIRLY brand on instagram over the next few years.
This post is part of a paid project with I’M A GIRLY and BritMums, promoting the I’M A GIRLY Fashion-Dolls, new high-end fashion dolls that just landed in Harrods and Hamleys. They are hip, cheeky, trendy and a bridge between childhood and teenage years. See the dolls and accessories at https://www.imagirly.com/uk/
