What are Laser Pegs Multi Models?
Laser Pegs are construction bricks that incorporate LED lights as part of their build system. The sets contain a range of opaque, translucent, and transparent bricks and accessories. Plus they contain at least one led light-up brick that illuminates the final model.
The Multi-Models sets contain instructions for multiple build ideas around a specific theme, to encourage kids to rebuild and revisit their sets.
About The Light Up Bricks
The light-up bricks add an exciting depth to building and construction. They have an on-off switch at one end and an opening at the other for the light to shine through. It’s worth pointing this out to children so that they make sure they put the brick in the right way round when using them. Put it in the wrong way round and you won’t be able to switch it on and off!
Each brick comes with 3x LR41 batteries already inside them. And to replace them you’ll need a teeny phillips-style screwdriver!t

Building The Laser Pegs Multi-Models 4 in 1 Construction Bobcat
The Bobcat instructions are easy to follow. All the diagrams are clear and clutter-free, with only a few pieces required for each step! For this set we used the instruction booklet.

The pieces all connected easily together with just a little force being required to some pieces.
The age is from 8+ which in my experience holds true. Although younger kids may need a little help if they’re not used to construction toys and following instructions.

One of the areas kids may find is making sure they pick up the right-sized brick! It’s worth spending time sorting them out as there’s a lot of yellow. Creating a length label for kids that get really confused so it’s easy for them to find the right-sized piece may help as well.

The finished model was a really nice small size and looked stunning when lit up. The wheels move nicely but are not totally free so the vehicle needs moving by hand rather than pushing off. The Bobcat arm moves up and down easily and the scoop also tilts which adds to it’s play value.

Because it’s not too big a project I’d say including sorting the pieces to allow approximately an hour to do (possibly a little longer for novices).

Build instructions for the Warthog, Chinook, L.P.A.H-1 and Biplane can be downloaded from the main Laser Pegs site https://www.laserpegs.com/pages/manuals.
Building The Laser Pegs Multi-Models 5 in 1 Chinook
For the next build, we decided to download the Chinook online instruction booklet.
The Chinooks instructions are found online, in the Laser Pegs manuals section. Each build is downloaded separately which makes the builds easier to find and follow. Once downloaded it’s a similar build process to the 4in1 set.
The Chinook is a harder build for a few reasons. One there are two grey translucent colours; dark and light grey. These are easy to confuse if you don’t pay attention.
There are also quite a few thin/slim pieces, that can be a little tricky to connect and require patience! These pieces seemed to click into place if we rolled the piece into place rather than laying it flat!

We also found an error in the build. There are only 8 red 40006-032C pieces in the kit (you can see them on the propellers). But the instructions call for 10! It was easy to manage and we just swapped in a couple of grey versions.

Because this is more difficult I’d say it’s around a 1.5-2 hrs build depending on the experience of the builder. But when it’s finished it again looks amazing and the mix of translucent bricks and lights create a fantastic finished model!

What Did We Think Of The Laser Pegs Multi-Models
These models have been really well thought out and great care has been taken to make sure the finished builds maximise the light input and the finished models look amazing!
Laser Pegs bricks are compatible with other building brick brands. So kids can have fun using them to incorporate light in other sets!

The pieces don’t always click together as smoothly as some other brick construction brands but with a little trial and error, it’s easy to find a workaround. But be aware that once locked together, they are difficult to prise apart. So a small metal screwdriver or nail file might be needed to rectify mistakes.
Something else to note is that the brick pieces are packaged inside sealed plastic bags that have to be cut open. So don’t throw away any of the internal packaging! You’ll need to keep it all in place to stop unused bricks from falling out of the hole that shows you a light brick when unopened. Alternatively get a different sealable bag or a small box to keep spares in.
The only thing we can’t comment on is how long the battery life lasts.
Apart from the above, we think Laser Pegs add a breath of fresh air into building brick construction. The instructions are straightforward and clear. AAnd none of the builds are overcomplicated.
They make fantastic nighttime ornaments as well as being loads of fun to play with!
