Aim Of The Game
The aim of Lex-Go! is super simple… to be the first to use all your tiles by forming words, altering existing words, and even sabotaging opponents’ words.
How To Play Lex-GO!
Lex-Go! is played in rounds, with the winner being the first player to win 5 rounds!
The rules are straightforward, making it easy for new players to join in.
First, the 52-letter tiles are shuffled face down on the table. Each player takes 10 tiles, keeping them face down in front of them. The remaining tiles are placed slightly off to the side (within easy reach of all the players) which is known as the draw pile, and an empty space central to all the players is made which is called the play zone.
When everyone is ready, one player shouts ‘lex go!‘, everyone flips over their own tiles, and races to create words and get rid of their tiles simultaneoulsy.
The first person to get rid of all their tiles shouts ‘Lexicon’ and everyone stops making words and the winning players’ words are checked.
Rules For Making Words In Lex-Go!
There are three ways to create words in Lex-Go!
- MAKE a word – place your word face up in the play area
- ATTACK a player’s words – add or replace a letter tile (or tiles) in an opponent’s words. When adding you cannot change the order of the letters already played but you can insert new letter tiles at the beginning, end, or middle of the word. When replacing a letter you must take the replaced letter tiles into your tile hand.
- SWAP one of your tiles with a tile in the draw pile – you must shout swap as you do this and you cannot swap another tile out until one of the other players has swapped out a tile after you.
- LEXICON TILE – this can be played as any letter but once in play, the declared letter cannot be changed.
You cannot use one-letter words, plurals, proper nouns, acronyms or abbreviations!

Alternative Game Play
The great thing about Lex-Go! is that if the super-fast word game version is overwhelming for some players you can use the letter tiles to play the original ‘classic’ Lexicon Game. In the classic game, players take turns to Make, Attack, or Swap. Once someone calls Lexicon that player wins the round but the losing players add up the numbers on the letter tiles still in their hand. Once a player reaches a score of 100, they are out of the game. Play then continues until there is only one player left… and they are the winner!
The rules are included in the instruction leaflet.
You can change these rules and increase/decrease the total value that outs a player. Or agree on a set number of rounds with the winner being the player with the lowest score.
What Did We Think Of Lex Go
We love the quick-thinking fast-paced nature of Lex-Go! It keeps players engaged and focused over the short burst of rounds! And the competitive element of racing to use all your tiles adds excitement and intensity to the gameplay.
Its key features of simple rules and dynamic gameplay make it hugely accessible to players of all ages and skill levels which I think is part of its charm. And if the fast-paced rules aren’t working well with some of your players you can use the original classic Lexicon rules to create a more structured less manic game.
The tiles are fabulously tactile and make that magical clinking sound when tapped together, and they appear well-made. But it turns out that the lettering on both sides of the tile is a thin plastic sticker. And over time it starts to degrade and break down, leaving sticking marks and what looks like scratches. Our set is 4 years old, and some of the tiles will need to be repaired as some of the lettering is wearing off.
And finally, Lex-Go! is not just fun; it’s also an amazing educational word game. It encourages players to expand their vocabulary, think creatively, and develop quick-thinking skills. Which makes it a fantastic tool for enhancing a child’s (and adults’) language and is an engaging way to practice spelling and word formation. And it’s this blend of entertainment and learning, that makes Lex-Go! a valuable addition to any game collection as well as just being a great game the whole family and friends can enjoy.
